Harvest Hosts Review: Dirtbag Ales, Hope Mills, NC

When the weather gets chilly, Our Cabin on Wheels heads south! Our first stop on our journey to Florida was Dirtbag Ales in Hope Mills, NC, south of Fayetteville and a short drive from I-95.

We arrived around 5:30 p.m. and saw that there were two other rigs already parked in a gravel overflow lot. It had rained steadily throughout the day, but the lot was mostly without standing water – there were a few puddles in the low spots. We found a puddle-free spot, and checked in at the bar.

Thumbs up to the burger.
Tracy gives a thumbs up to the Napkins-style burger and the Farmhouse Ale.

The staff at Dirtbag Ales is friendly and helpful. The brewery has a large, dog-friendly tasting room, and lots of covered seating outdoors. On the wet and rainy night of our visit, nobody was outside.

We ordered drinks – a Farmhouse Ale for Tracy and a Downtown Brown for Vic – and both were really good.

Dirtbag Ales has a separate, on-site takeout restaurant called Napkins. The beauty here is that you can order your food and bring it inside to the tasting room or find a bench outside to enjoy. Vic had the Mushroom Burger and Tracy had veggie burger, Napkins style, with cheese, pickle and signature Napkins sauce – both with fries.

Our respective burgers were juicy, delicious and filling, and understood why they call the restaurant Napkins. You’ll need a lot of napkins when you’re eating their food!

After dinner, we retired to our camper. Dirtbag Ales is right on a somewhat busy road, and close to I-95, so there was some road noise, but it was tolerable. We highly recommend Dirtbag Ales and look forward to our next visit.
