Harvest Hosts Review: Black Draft Farm & Distillery, Martinsburg, WV

Black Draft Farm & Distillery is located in Martinsburg, West Virginia, a few miles off of I-81 — an easy stopover. They produce bourbon whiskey, straight rye whiskey, vodkas (a signature Black Draft vodka and two flavored options: Cold brew coffee infused and spearmint) and a super smooth moonshine. Try them all for free if you like!

Currently, Black Draft Farm & Distillery is only open weekends, and we stayed over on a Sunday evening. This is a very popular place is it was hopping when we arrived, with people inside enjoying cocktails and more outside enjoying cocktails and the music. There was also a food truck – Taco Oasis – that was doing a brisk business.

We were directed to park in a graveled area above the main parking area, and to just find a spot we liked. We found a nice, but not quite level spot, but it was easily fixed with two boards.

The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the cocktails on the porch were delicious and refreshing on a warm August day. There is plenty of seating outside under umbrellas and in rocking chairs on the porch (my favorite spot).

It was very quiet after they closed, and we sat outside of our camper, taking in the setting sun and breeze. The next morning, we were rewarded with a spectacular sunrise.

This is a new Harvest Host. The manager, Emmy, said that they’ve been hosting for about a month, to try it out. We hope they continue with the program – we’d love to come back!
